Who’s Moving Where In Wealth Management? – Withers, JM Finn, Maven Capital Partners

The latest moves and appointments for wealth management roles in the UK, and other parts of Europe, the Middle East and select international locations.

Withers
International law firm Withers has added to its UK immigration practice in London, appointing a new partner, Tom Marsom (pictured). Previously, he was a director in the immigration team at Vialto Partners and before that a senior solicitor and head of immigration at Macfarlanes.

Marsom advises families and individuals on complex visa applications, discretionary cases and strategic planning ahead of international moves; he also advises corporate clients, who include family offices and entrepreneurs, on compliance, sponsor licences, and M&A and transactional support. Marsom serves on the Law Society's Immigration Committee, providing input on Home Office immigration policy.

"We are delighted to have Tom join our UK immigration team in London as partner,” Jay Dinwoodie, chief executive of Withers' Private Client and Tax division, said. “With increasing levels of change and complexity in the UK's immigration system, demand for UK immigration expertise is higher than ever and Tom's expertise perfectly complements Withers' ambitions for our UK immigration team."

Nicolette Bostock, London immigration partner, added: "I've known Tom as a very able immigration lawyer for many years and he shares the level of technical knowledge and kid-glove approach to client care that underpins Withers' reputation for excellence."

JM Finn
UK wealth manager JM Finn has hired Tom Barton from RBC Brewin Dolphin, effective October.

Based in the firm's new Cheltenham office, he will serve private clients and intermediaries and support the team in growing the business in JM Finn’s latest regional branch office, the firm said in a statement. Originally from Cheltenham, Barton joined RBC Brewin Dolphin as a trainee in 2015 straight from university.

JM Finn established its fifth regional office in Cheltenham in January this year following the recruitment of four investment managers from EFG Harris Allday in Ombersley. The JM Finn office, which now consists of Ian Posgate, Liam Shelton, Amelia Hobbs, Mark Burnett and Richard Cleary, was officially opened at a launch party in May by Edward Gillespie OBE, the Lord-Lieutenant of Gloucestershire.

“Since joining JM Finn, the team has received unprecedented support from our clients who are appreciating the client-first focus of JM Finn in addition to the welcome addition of the wealth planning team, a service which wasn’t available to them at our previous firm," Ian Posgate, investment director and head of the Cheltenham office, said.

Maven Capital Partners
Maven Capital Partners has appointed two portfolio managers to join its local team: Catherine Earl and Graham Parker will support the firm’s growing North East portfolio.

Earl, who will work across the firm’s regional office network, is responsible for working with management teams of Maven’s portfolio companies to support growth, create long-term value and achieve their strategic objectives. She has more than a decade of board-level experience in private equity-backed and family-owned businesses, with a track record in M&A, business expansion and finance transformation, alongside overseeing financial reporting and operational performance.

Parker is responsible for managing relationships across existing investments, working closely management teams to support growth, create long-term value and help businesses achieve their strategic objectives. Prior to joining Maven, Graham was group chief financial officer at Indigo Software. With experience spanning corporate finance and board-level leadership, Parker has advised and led entrepreneurial and private equity-backed businesses through fundraising, acquisitions, transformation programmes and successful shareholder exits.

“We are delighted to welcome Catherine and Graham to Maven,” Michael Vassallo, partner at Maven Capital Partners, said. “Their combined experience in strategic growth, acquisitions, transformation and shareholder value creation will further enhance the support available to our portfolio companies. These appointments represent an important investment in our portfolio team and reflect our commitment to helping ambitious businesses across the North East scale, innovate and realise their full potential.”
